Home Art Curation: Sharing Some of My Favorite Artists!
If you’ve made it to this post from Design School with Professor, welcome! And if you simply stumbled across this post from visiting the site - well, I welcome you, too! I love nothing more than to talk about art, and how it beautifully adds color, personality, and a layer of love to our homes!
After sharing the proper height to hang artwork and the “rules” of picking your art, I thought I’d share with you a few of my favorite artists according to where their work is displayed in my home!
Artists
Portrait | Be You | Tiny but Mighty: Maggie Russell
Hanging Clay Sculpture: Booth Sartain
Floral Crown: Katherine George
Floral Background: Mia Saine
Man in the Mirror and Riding High: Cap’t James Stovall
Artists
River Tribe Elder: Kea Woods
Portrait: Frances Berry
Lady with Rollers: Kiara Sally
Rainbow Smile: Lexi Perkins
Although the artist of this painting remains unknown, this painting is really special to me! It comes from the Dominican Republic, a place where part of my family’s heritage lives, and the subject matter spoke to my soul! In the background, people are outside, enjoying life while playing music, having a “beverage” or two! And in the foreground, there’s a couple dancing! For me, this painting represents my love of dance, of enjoyment in the everyday, and its colors represent my love for living a colorful and fruitful life!
Fun fact: this was the first piece of original artwork I ever bought, and almost 13 years ago! Would you believe I almost left it in the Atlanta airport?! I’m so thankful for the person who flagged me down to let me know I’d left the painting resting on the column next to our former gate; my family and I had to frantically run to catch our plan due to a last-minute gate change!

Another fun fact, but about this painting is that Frances painted this piece before seeing these chairs, and I’d acquired these chairs without ever seeing this piece from Frances. However, do you see how absolutely perfect it completes this space and coordinates with the chair? I’m forever grateful to Frances for this gift!
This is simply one of many examples of a painting choosing you and the space rather than the other way around!
Bonus Recipe: My Twist on a French 75
Along with the visual arts, I love the sensory art of mixology! As featured in my latest episode of Design School with Professor Quarles, I wanted to share with you a French 75 recipe, with a little twist:
1oz gin
1oz lemon juice
0.5oz simple syrup
Champagne (or prosecco) finish
And my favorite little twist - a splash of elderflower liqueur (St. Germain)
Serve with a lemon twist. This is a classic and refreshing cocktail that can be enjoyed any season of the year!
I hope that you’ve enjoyed this roundup of some of my favorite artists, who all happen to be local to the Memphis area, as well as the bonus recipe! Art is one of my preferred ways to bring excitement and personality into a home! And whether an original piece, or a print, supporting local artists will forever be a passion of mine.
